Upcoming kite clinic in Cabarete with champ Kevin Langeree

Getting ready to kiteLike with all sports you tend to progress pretty fast when you first start out but after a while you reach a plateau and you stay stuck at the same level with very little progress. In kiteboarding, that often happens when you become all too comfortable with your transitions and airs. That’s when some professional tutoring can help get you to the next level. Just a few tips are often all that is needed to correct years of poor technical habits.

If you happen to be in Cabarete mid- August and you really want to improve your kite boarding skills this year, you’re in luck. 2014 Red Bull King of the Air and former world champion Kevin Langeree will be guest coach at two kite clinics organized this summer in lovely Cabarete by Uncharted Kite Sessions.

Surfing on the Dominican North Coast

Getting up on the lipThe Dominican North Coast is well-known for wind propelled watersports like kiteboarding and windsurfing but did you know that it also has some really good wave surfing spots as well? Because of the island’s location, the Dominican North Coast has a great climate, warm waves and a good consistent all year round swell. Starting in October through to March, the Northern swell picks up and surf spots get big powerful waves, which are great for more experienced surfers. In summer (May to September), smaller waist high mellow waves are on the menu for less experienced surfers or surfers who prefer easy waves.

Interview with windsurf legend Brian Talma

Brian Talma always smilingSuper tanned, with longish hair lightened by hours in the sun and sea, always smiling, standing tall and looking good. Brian Talma, the windsurfing legend from Barbados is about to turn fifty but he is still competing at the world-class level and looks surprisingly similar to the photos that were published of him in a wide array of windsurfing magazines from all over the world at the end of the eighties and throughout the nineties.

And windsurfing is not his only passion. Brian was also the key figure who introduced stand-up paddle surfing into Barbados in 2005 and the rest of the Caribbean as well as putting his weight behind the adoption of the sport across Europe. He’s also a decent kiter and still loves to surf, which was his first passion as a teenager.
