Money in the Dominican Republic

Money in the Dominican RepublicThe Dominican Republic uses Dominican Pesos (RD) as its main currency but in tourist areas the US Dollar, and to a lesser degree the Euro, are both accepted as well. Beware that the exchange rate used in this case will always be unfavorable.

The Mariposa Xmas Fair

Mariposa Xmas Fair 2014 Cabarete Dominican Republic

The Mariposa DR Foundation throws a Christmas party every year, like clockwork. Up until two years ago, this event would gather people for a community gathering downtown Cabarete, but the girls finally got their own center, where they throughout the year put in much effort for their future and tops it off at Christmas by inviting the town for a day of shopping, dancing, playing and laughing in the sun. And for meeting Santa Claus.

3 Books is Just a Start!

My New Library DREAM Project Cabarete Dominican RepublicTwenty five children from age three to five and a half tentatively enter the class room looking half lost from their teachers to the wide range of colorful books neatly displayed. After some nudging the children enthusiastically choose three books each. Proudly they show off their choices: “The tired dragon”, “Captain Underpants” and “The animal ABC”, among many other titles.

Christmas in the Sun!

Cabarete Overview Bay Dominican RepublicImagine a Christmas where you can sit back and relax with a tropical cocktail on the beach.  When the most amount of clothing you need is a pair of shorts and a t-shirt, preferably with some flowery print.  And where gently waving palm trees are decorated as Christmas trees.  Welcome to Cabarete!
Winter on the Dominican North Coast is beautiful with average temperatures of 25 degrees Celsius (77 degrees Fahrenheit).  Apart from chilling in the sun while absorbing all-important vitamin D and thinking about your lucky escape from the freezing cold back home, this time of the year is also the perfect time to do all those amazing sports nobody wants to do here in summer because it’s too hot.
Go mountain biking in beautiful lush El Choco National Park, just behind Cabarete.  This hilly range is riddled with amazing trails that go on forever, and will test your stamina.  So be sure to go with a lot of energy, water, some spare tires, and either go with a guide or bring a compass.

Christmas in the Dominican Republic

Christmas in the Dominican RepublicDominicans love to celebrate, no matter what the reason, and Christmas is no exception. On the contrary; if you come and visit the Dominican Republic anywhere between November and February you'll find the country is already / still in the ban of Christmas.

Shops start playing Christmas carols and selling Christmas decorations early November, and most people keep their Christmas decorations up until the end of January.
